The Purple Lotus Symbol

One of the most important symbols in Buddism is the Purple Lotus flower, as it symbolizes the Eightfold Path.

While red lotus flowers symbolize love and compassion, blue symbolize wisdom, pink means spiritual attainment of perfection, and white is the symbol of purity; the purple lotus is thought to be the ‘mystic lotus’ in Buddism.

In Egypt, the lotus, or water lily, is associated with the sun, and seen as a symbol of rebirth. Like the sun, a lotus goes down (or closes) at night, and rises (or opens) at daybreak.
